Lightning Whelks sinistrofulgur perversum are the official
Texas Shell. They are best known for being a “left handed” sinistral shell as the spiral growth direction is counter clockwise. Excellent for decorating and rehoming hermit crabs; these predatory mollusks have been recorded up to 16” in length while inshore variants typically max out at around 8”
**These raw, natural shells may include broken, chipped, or hole-filled shells. They can be easily sanded with sandpaper or smoothed with a buffing rotary tool.
These are intended for crafting purposes & are not specimens or museum grade (unless otherwise specified).
Consequently, most will exhibit evidence of their oceanic life and have imperfect shells. Natural variations such as growth marks, pinpoint holes, chipped corners, crowns, or edges, mineral buildup, and other imperfections can be present.
