The Eye of Horus is an ancient Egyptian symbol that is believed to be an effective source of protection and a symbol of strength and perfection. Horus was the ancient Egyptian sky god who was typically depicted as a falcon or with a falcon’s head. The eye is personified in the goddess Wadjet, also known as “The Eye of Ra,” which originates from the struggle between Horus and Seth. In the said conflict, Horus loses his left eye, which is taken by Seth. However, Horus subsequently acquires spiritual sight, the eye of light. The eye was later healed by Thoth and returned to Horus, who is now known as Wadjet.
The Eye of Horus is depicted as a figure composed of six segments, each corresponding to one of our six senses: touch, taste, hearing, thought, sight, and smell. The Right Eye of Horus symbolizes tangible information governed by the left hemisphere of the brain. It pertains to words, letters, and numbers, as well as the written form of sentences and complete thoughts. Conversely, the Left Eye of Horus represents abstract aesthetic information controlled by the right hemisphere of the brain. It deals with esoteric thoughts and emotions and is responsible for intuition.
